Dr. Catherine Murphy is an Optometrist at Michelson Laser Vision and Alabama Eye and Cataract Center. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama-Birmingham in 2001 and joined our staff in 2005. Dr. Murphy diagnoses and treats medical eye disease as well as providing peri-operative care of eye surgery patients who have cataract surgery, corneal transplants, anterior segment eye reconstruction and Laser Eye Surgery including LASIK, Epi-LASIK, PRK and Custom LASIK.
Dr. Murphy is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Alabama Optometric Association, and Birmingham Area Optometric Society. Dr. Murphy brings a unique perspective to caring for Laser Eye Surgery patients in that not only is Dr. Murphy a colleague of Dr. Michelson's, but she is also one of his LASIK patients. Dr. Michelson performed LASIK Surgery for Dr. Murphy in November 2004 on a live television newscast. NBC-13 news broadcast the procedure as Dr. Murphy ended 25 years of dependence on glasses and contact lenses. Dr. Murphy's own “before, during and after” experiences have been helpful in counseling patients and understanding their concerns and fears as they go through their own decision process about LASIK.
